Joe Kummer, PhD — President

Dr. Joe Kummer has a unique combination of technical and business experience covering a wide range of engineering and manufacturing disciplines. He has helped design, develop, and market dozens of products including unmanned air vehicles, military tactical gear, composite materials, wind turbines, air purifiers, and many others.

Dr. Kummer holds an undergraduate degree in Engineering Physics and PhD in Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering, and has 11 issued patents. In 2006 he formed Propulsive Wing LLC to commercialize a new type of patented propulsion/airframe concept. This effort was funded by NASA and the US Air Force, and resulted in several unique unmanned air vehicles. Dr. Kummer is also currently the VP Engineering and Marketing for Edge Pharmacy Services, a 503B pharmaceutical outsourcing facility.

Dr. Kummer believes in a pragmatic approach to marketing and sales, with early focus on customer requirements. The key to any long term manufacturing partnership is to leverage a capability to solve the customer’s problem. This is particularly true for smaller manufacturing companies, which may have a specialized process or equipment, but are under-utilizing their output capacity. Load-balanced manufacturing, and hence financial stability, typically comes from long term partnerships and contracted blanket orders. Dr. Kummer has extensive experience developing these relationships and negotiating these type of contracts.

In addition to sales and business development, Dr. Kummer has consulted for clients on a wide range of engineering projects. Some of these projects included propeller and rotor design, factory automation robotics, laser ablation equipment, archery products, x-ray imaging equipment, carbon fiber prosthetics, and sky diving training wind tunnels. His engineering work has primarily been in the fields of aerodynamics and composite materials.
